Summary
The hunting season resumed on Friday, September 12, after Bill tried to mess up the season by giving us all a heart attack. The dramatis personae were Bill, Ted, and David. The weather was unusally warm but unstable, with some clouds wifting by. Bill was under orders by his MD to take it easy and walk only on the flats, so he went to Hummingbird. I am not sure, but I think Ted might have gone to Sandy's Tree on Hummingbird. I was up for some exercise, to avoid an MI, so I went to North Flat. The evening had some beautiful light effects:
As I remember, next to nothing was seen. We did have a little excitement in camp, as Bill played cards and Ted and I sat around the table. We always knew Bill had bats in the belfry, but now we find proof:
This guy was stuck in the Master Bedroom, flying in circles. I opened the doors and within about 15 minutes he figured out how to get out. He was fairly large, about 5" in height.
The following morning, it was cool and some rain (!) threatened and there was lighting and thunder repeatedly. I thought it might be a good time for the Van Horn, and asked Ted if he did not mind. Bill went to Hummingbird, Ted went up the road to the top. I went out early, and could see the light start over Mt Black as I went up the Van Horn. It started out that the sun could peek around the clouds:
Shortly later, the clouds thickened and the sun was shielded a bit, then rain came down
I took advantage of all the noise and rushed up the hill to get into position on the first bench. I stood against a tree and, despite the light that the above picture would imply, could barely see under the oaks. But I could see two deer, who were a bit bewildered by all the noise of the rain coming down. I watched them watch me for 15 minutes. I thought I could hear another deer below them, moving in the leaves. Finally, after 15 min, it appeared: a modest fork! He and I stared at each other for another 15 minutes, at about 30 yards. The light was poor and I was against a tree, so he knew I was there but was not sure what I was. Finally, they moved off and I moved up the hill.
