California Holly Cherry

This specimen was collected September 1, 2008, on a ridge above the cabin. It is most common along the Arroyo side of Matteoni and Prune Ridge Swale and Prune Ridge Hook. There is a prominent specimen just as you arrive at Prune Ridge Hook itself. Berries are not found on all plants every year, but seem to vary year to year the way acorns are on oaks. These are the berries that attract the bluebirds to Hummingbird (the California fuchsia is what attracts the hummingbirds to Hummingbird).

Here is a California Holly-Leaf Cherry with lots of really red berries.
